How to get rid of insects in the house?
Little riddle: When you’re enjoying a nice barbecue in the garden with friends or a tapas evening on the terrace, what’s more boring? No, not the meat that gets cold too quickly, or your ex who shows up unexpectedly! Of course, we’re talking about all those unwanted insects that won’t let you go!
Especially ants, flies and mosquitoes. Admit that they really have a knack for ruining your moments of joy. But why continue to tolerate them? To regain your peace of mind, you have a range of super practical and easy-to-apply remedies at your disposal.
And if that’s not enough, these solutions are natural, ecological and economical! There’s no need to pollute the environment or suffocate your guests with harsh chemical insecticides. Our tips of the day will surprise you.
1. Garlic

Let’s start with this condiment that you must have in your pantry. Garlic is useful for chasing away all these invaders. And this is thanks to its sulfur compounds that act as real insecticides and fungicides. These sulfuric substances give off such a strong smell that it irritates aphids and ants. How to use it? There are three options available to you.
How to do it?
- Peel a few cloves of garlic and place them on the windowsill nearest your garden or terrace. Their scent will spread everywhere and insects will no longer come near.
- You can also put 3 or 4 cloves of fresh garlic in a glass jar filled with water and leave it on the windowsill for a few days. You can then spray this solution directly on the plants infested with aphids. It’s a sure remedy to make them disappear!
- Otherwise, to intensify the smell of garlic, you should rub a little in the areas frequented by ants, both outside and inside the house. Obviously, if the smell bothers you, it is up to you to measure the amount so as not to drown yourself either!
2. Vinegar
Vinegar (especially white vinegar) is known for its powerful cleaning and degreasing power, which is why it’s often used around the house to disinfect various surfaces. We bet you probably have some in stock. Well, since it’s versatile, you can also use it to ward off those invaders who can’t stand the strong smell. You’ll be able to say goodbye to all the bugs that pop up out of nowhere, reproduce at lightning speed, and disturb your peace of mind. Especially those that continually wander around the kitchen looking for food. But in order not to waste it unnecessarily, it would be good to first know which types of insects are most vulnerable to this natural solution.
3. Eucalyptus essential oil
As mentioned above, essential oils, although they have intoxicating aromas that we find pleasant, are intolerable to most insects. Thus, eucalyptus essential oil acts as a real mosquito repellent . As an added benefit, it is even an excellent anti-inflammatory against their bites. So, the ideal would be to buy it in a diffuser to spray it directly on your skin. It will certainly not be at all appetizing for those nasty mosquitoes!
Another option you can try is to prepare a solution based on water and a few drops of this oil to spray in certain areas of the house, especially on the terrace or windows. Otherwise, you can also place some bunches of eucalyptus leaves in the garden.
4. Incense
Want to scent your house with incense? Great idea! But be smart and opt for scented sticks that insects hate. There is no shortage of options: lavender, lemon, lemongrass… Just burn a little to enjoy a pleasant aroma in your home and at the same time scare away all these pests. Jump, two birds with one stone!
