How to clean wooden ladles

Wooden ladles are among the most used utensils in the kitchen and must be treated properly to sanitize them perfectly and reuse them every day without danger to health. Unfortunately, due to the material, we cannot put them in the dishwasher, as the appliance reaches very high temperatures and the material can be easily damaged.

In addition, heat and humidity promote the proliferation of bacteria in the material, so you should be careful to wash them carefully before using them again. It is also good to avoid chemical dishwashing detergents because they are usually aggressive and can ruin the wood of the utensils.

This type of utensils tends to absorb, so dirt, grease and food residues are concentrated, which is why hot water and dish detergent are often not enough to remove bacteria and sanitize them. Don’t worry, here is a solution to have perfectly disinfected wooden ladles!

Sanitizing mixture for wooden ladles

To have wooden ladles perfectly free from dirt and properly sanitized, it is possible to opt for a mixture specially prepared to achieve this purpose. With this mixture you can thoroughly clean such utensils and rid them of bacteria, thus avoiding health risks.

The first thing you need to do is choose a large container to prepare the mixture and where you can then soak the wooden ladles. Once you have found the container, here’s how to prepare the mixture and what to do to clean the ladles:

  • Pour 1 and a half liters of water into a saucepan;
  • Add 1 and a half glasses of vinegar to the water;
  • Put the pot on the stove and boil for about 10 minutes;
  • Remove the pot from the heat and pour the solution into the container;
  • Dip the wooden ladles into the solution and let them soak until the liquid becomes cold.

When the solution has cooled, it is time to remove them and rinse them with running water. After rinsing them with plenty of water, put the ladles in the open air so that they dry quickly.

Lemon juice is also in the mixture

You can also add lemon juice to the mixture, which will release a pleasant scent and soothe the strong smell of vinegar. The degreasing and sanitizing action of lemon makes it one of the most effective ingredients in cleaning these utensils, as it helps to eliminate strong odors and grease easily.

Then add the lemon juice to the prepared solution as indicated above to make your ladles even cleaner and more sanitized and also pleasantly scented. Instead of putting them in the open air, if you don’t have how to do it, you can dry the ladles with a soft, dry cloth, able to treat the wood gently so as not to damage it.

The mixture described above can be used whenever it is necessary to clean them, as they are natural ingredients, which do not cause damage to the material or even to our health. The results we will obtain are certainly great and we will no longer have utensils full of bacteria and dirt, but very clean and disinfected, to cook food without health dangers!
