The orchid is a beautiful plant and you just need to follow a few simple rules to make it bloom for a long time. Orchids are very special and very beautiful flowers. They are plants that are native to the equatorial climate, but have also adapted to our temperatures. They embellish our homes with their colors, sometimes intense, sometimes soft. They belong to the Orcidaceae family. There are many species, some of which are only cultivated, while others grow wild in the wild. They are mostly epiphytic plants, which means they are equipped with aerial roots. This allows them to live in logs or rocks and recover the water they need and also some substances from decaying organisms. Instead, in our homes, the most common types are those with roots that need to be buried. When we buy an orchid or if someone has given it to us and we do not know how to take care of it, we must know that it is not difficult to take care of it, but it is necessary to take some precautions if we do not want it to wither and die in a short time. First of all, we must keep in mind that the orchid loves a bright and humid climate due to its tropical origin. However, it is not a plant that is planted in the ground. We have to find a good position within our own walls. The area he prefers is the one that faces south or east.

The ideal place to plant our orchid

The sun’s rays should not fall directly, but the place should be very bright. Lack of light is, in fact, one of the main reasons why our orchid might wilt. The ideal temperature is between 23 – 24 °C as a maximum and between 16 – 17 °C as a minimum.

We also pay attention to humidity. If it’s too much, it could ruin the flowers, and if it’s too little, the leaves could wrinkle and turn yellow. The ideal humidity is around 70% and is perfect for beautifying our bathrooms or kitchens. It is also better to put a saucer, which we fill with expanded clay or gravel. Add a little water that will evaporate and can guarantee the roots adequate moisture. Alternatively, we can spray the plant, always in the morning, with demineralized water or, better yet, with rainwater. Watering should be minimal and should only be done when the soil is dry. Once a week is enough, during the winter season and 2 to 3 times in summer. Water should be given in the morning and it is important to pay attention to stagnation. In fact, these could experience root rot and completely ruin our orchid. Now all we have to do is put these few tips into practice and watch our orchid bloom for many years to come.
