Having a fragrant home is a priority, because there’s nothing more pleasant than coming back after a long day at work and being greeted by an intense aroma. All this is not always easy, especially in winter, when after dinner the doors and windows remain closed, the smells of food or smoke are trapped inside. There are many industrial air fresheners that can help us solve the problem, but the cost can put a strain on the budget in the long run and the worst thing is that we have to constantly inhale chemicals. In this case, nature can come to our aid in a simple and economical way. In addition, depending on the substance we choose, we would obtain several benefits from it. In this case, we will deal with sage.
The Benefits of Sage
We all know that sage in the kitchen is a real winning weapon for seasoning roasts, but its properties are not limited to that. Its scent has the ability to reduce anxiety and stress, so it helps with nervousness or sleep disorders. That’s not all, its expectorant power is an ally for asthmatics and in inflammatory processes in the upper respiratory tract.
How to Use Sage to Perfume and Benefit Your Home
Let’s get a good amount of sage leaves. If we had a plant in the garden it would be ideal, if we don’t have it yet, we thought about buying one. This plant is very resistant and also grows well in pots, so it is a good idea to buy a plant to have it inside the house even if we do not have a garden. Clean the leaves well, we need to remove all dirt residues, put them on a piece of paper towel or kitchen towel and let them air dry for 4-5 days. When they are ready, put them in small cotton bags, close them and place them in various corners of the house. For a more intense aroma, place the bags on the radiator, when you turn on the house it will smell.
Aromatic fumes for a shock effect
To quickly solve situations in which a bad smell has spread in the rooms, we can use sage by combining it with other spices. We take some sage leaves, a few sprigs of rosemary, bay leaves and a lemon, the latter we cut into small pieces. Put everything in a pot with water and bring to a boil. The steam released is distributed between the rooms, eliminating the bad smell and at the same time perfumes all the rooms. Now it will always be very relaxing to come home!
