Every gardener wants to see a beautiful rose in their garden. You don’t need to buy a scion every time at the market or in the store if you already have a beauty on your site. Thanks to cuttings, you can propagate a flower if you do everything correctly. Some call this cutting method “burrito” because the packaging of the cuttings is reminiscent of this Mexican dish.
And, in fact, the clippings are wrapped in newspaper. This is done so that they have favorable conditions for the appearance of roots and calluses (plant tissue). Thanks to this method, in just a few weeks you will have sprouts ready to plant in the ground.
How to Take Cuttings
You can take cuttings in autumn, but the best time to do so is in spring, when the shrubs are pruned. It is necessary to cut the stems up to 20 centimeters long so that they have several buds. The thickness of the cuttings must be at least 5 millimeters; otherwise, there may not be enough nutrients for the formation of the root system and plant tissue. Fine cuttings can also germinate, but this occurs in very rare cases.

How to Process Cuttings
Before you wrap clippings in newspaper, sort and process them. It is necessary to make sure that there are no damaged or rotten cuttings among them. These stems can infect healthy ones. Subsequently, treat the cuttings with a growth stimulator. You can buy it or make it yourself. Don’t worry, it doesn’t contain chemicals. If you want to make the fertilizer yourself, you’ll need annual green or yellow willow shoots. You have to chop them finely, pour boiling water over them and let them rest for 3-4 hours.
How to Pack Cuttings
Then we move on to the most important stage. Clippings should be collected in groups of 5 to 7 pieces and wrapped in several layers of newspaper or paper towels. Moisten with water, wrap in a plastic bag and leave in a dark place. An important point is the temperature at which the cuttings will be stored, it should be 14 to 18 degrees. If the temperature is higher, the roots will dry out, and if it is lower, they will not germinate.

How and when to check the packaging
After three weeks, it is necessary to unwrap the packages with future roses to check if the root system and plant tissue have formed. If the newspaper has dried, you should moisten it and then wrap the clippings and place them back in a dark place.

How to plant cuttings
Once the roots and calluses are complete, it is first necessary to plant the cuttings one by one in jars or pots. In this case, the top bud should be raised above the surface. Create a water bath using film to cover the container with. Sprouts should be placed in a place where the temperature is 23 to 25 degrees. As the shoots grow, you need to open the film a bit. Cuttings should be sprayed frequently.
