Don’t forget about the orchids before you go on vacation. Orchids are plants that need a lot of care, and if you’re not careful, you may find the plant dead when you return from vacation. Typically, all plants require minimal and regular care to ensure that they do not dry out and do not die. However, orchids are something very special, they have tropical origins and are famous for their colorful flowers. Initially, they were considered elite plants. In fact, they needed a certain climate, certain temperatures, and a certain humidity. Today, however, there are more varieties of the orchid and some that are also adapted to European living conditions. They have become increasingly popular and profitable over time.

Calculate the days of your vacation, if they exceed 7 days, you will have to ask a family member or friend to come to your house to give water to your orchid to make sure that it does not die of thirst during your absence, otherwise, here are some suggestions on how to best prepare the orchid before you leave.
Here’s what you can do with your orchid before you go on vacation
If your vacation lasts less than 7 days, your orchid may be left home alone, but it’s good to prepare it for your absence with a few small suggestions. Here’s what you should do before you go, some tips:
- Water it from the bottom: Make sure to water it well before leaving it so that it does not suffer. In order for it to absorb as much water as possible, it is necessary to proceed by immersion. And just put the orchid in a bowl of water for at least half an hour. During this time, the plant absorbs water through the holes in the pot, which remains moist for longer.
- Take in more light: Usually, the orchid is a plant that needs partial shade and should not be exposed to direct sunlight. However, a few days before going out, it is better to leave it in the sun for a few hours, always indirectly (so as not to run the risk of burning it) to “recharge” it

- Don’t leave it in the dark: Orchids are houseplants, but they need light. Never leave them without power for a few days, because you’ll find them dead. Be careful not to close all the blinds in the house before going on vacation, at least in the room where the orchids are located, do not lower the blind completely to allow light to pass through, which serves not to interrupt the photosynthesis process of the plant.
- Give it an energetic boost: A little extra energy will keep it alive during your absence. Fertilize it with a season ticket the day before departure. It is better to use one based on potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen. Typically, this type needs to be diluted in water and then poured into the plant.
If your vacation lasts more than 7 days and you don’t have anyone in town walking around your house, we recommend the wire trick. Woven cotton threads are taken and one end is placed on the ground and the other in a basin of water. The water-soaked threads gradually bring water to the plant, which will not suffer from thirst these days. It’s a useful trick to prevent your orchid from going days without watering at all.
