Materials Needed

  • A sharp knife,
  • a few sheets of paper towels,
  • A little water,
  • a transparent plastic container,
  • Cling film.

How to make the hole

When we prepare mangoes to eat, we don’t usually pay much attention to the stone, but in this case it is necessary not to damage it. If the fruit is very ripe, simply make an incision along the entire perimeter, try not to touch the pit, and then simply twist the two halves to release it. If, on the other hand, the pulp is firmer, we are forced to make slices, always being careful not to touch the stone and to release it little by little. Once we have the long-awaited core in our hands, we must extract the inside, again being very careful not to damage it. Generally, there is a slit on the outside, let’s start with it to open it and extract the interior pulp, it should come out completely whole.

When we finally have the mango seed in our hands, gently wrap it in a few sheets of paper towels, place it in the container and moisten the entire paper towel with your hands or a sprayer. It should be well soaked in water, but not soaked. Wrap the entire container with cling film, in this way we have created a mini greenhouse where the seeds are kept in the right conditions of temperature and humidity. Place the container in a well-lit place, but out of direct sunlight. In about ten days we will see the first buds sprout from our beautiful mango plant.
