Plants can perform several basic functions for nature and for our existence. Among them, however, the aesthetic function should not be underestimated. Yes, because plants such as the begonia are the most capable of beautifying a balcony or a terrace. For this reason, we have decided to give a series of indications that can be useful to better grow this fantastic plant and achieve a truly spectacular result in terms of colors.

Transplant it the right way

One of the most common mistakes that can be made when caring for plants, especially begonias, is the activity of transplanting. It must be clear that the plant must be transplanted at the right time so that it grows in height but also in width. The roots must have taken up virtually the entire outer part of the clod before transplanting: they must be dense and narrow. The choice of vase is of course also of great importance (terracotta is preferable). The right time to transplant is spring.

Look at the leaves of the begonia

The leaves tell you when it’s best to water the begonia. If these tend to sink sharply, it means they need water. The soil, whatever happens, should always be moist, but not wet, because the roots of the begonia are very sensitive and can rot. From the leaves, it is also possible to notice the presence of parasites and act accordingly: holes, stains and threads can be an indication. So, act immediately.

Pruning the stems

Another trick to better treat begonia is to cut off the stems taller to stimulate its growth. Simply cut under a knot, i.e. at the places where a new leaf is going to be born. Again, it’s important to choose the right time: spring is the most suitable season.

Begonia fertilizer

Begonias, as perhaps not everyone knows, are characterized by their lush flowers. Fertilizing can promote the result in this regard: Use a fertilizer rich in potassium for up to every three to four weeks. Banana peels can also be useful as a natural fertilizer.

Importance of cuttings

After all, cuttings are of great importance. You can fill in the balconies, just cut the stem 10 cm and let it dry for a few days before burying it. The pot with the cutting should be placed in a bright place.
