Kitchen salt, a resource for our home
Surely we all have a salt shaker on our table or stored in the spice cupboard. Salt enhances the flavor of our dishes, of course, but not only. Did you know that you can also use it to clean your home?
You may not know it, but salt (sodium chloride) has been used for cleaning since at least the Middle Ages, and later generations continued to use it for all kinds of artisanal household chores. In addition, it is an excellent alternative to baking soda.

Environmentally friendly and economical, this ingredient has proven to be effective in scrubbing surfaces, removing dirt, and removing other stubborn stains. And now that you have a small taste of how useful and effective household salt can be, let’s take a look at some of the many ways you can use it wisely:
It is quite possible to treat limescale stains with this ingredient. For this, the combination of coarse salt and lemon is very effective. Thanks to the citric acid contained in lemon, it attacks limescale, while coarse salt facilitates the removal of residues. A 100% guaranteed result!
Here’s how to add it to the bucket
Simply mix these two ingredients, i.e. salt and lemon, inside the cleansing bucket, dip a sponge into the solution and rub the affected area with this winning duo before rinsing. In addition to acting as a disinfectant, this mixture will remove limescale and other hard-to-remove stains.
However, if you have cooked fish and find yourself with an unpleasant and persistent smell in your kitchen, don’t worry, because we have the solution! In a bowl, mix about 20 drops of essential oil of your choice with 150g of coarse salt. Place the container in the desired location in your kitchen! Alternatively, you can put the mixture in bags and hang them in different places around the house. In addition to naturally deodorizing your home, this ingredient also absorbs moisture.

And that’s not all, because it is possible to clean tarnished cutlery with a very simple and homemade solution, the necessary ingredients for which are probably available in your kitchen cupboard. To start, get aluminum foil and place it in a plastic container (avoid any other metal material). Add a handful of coarse salt to a pot of boiling water, then fill the bowl with hot salted water.
Carefully place your silver object to be cleaned and put it in contact with the aluminum foil. Just wait a few minutes to 1 hour (depending on the oxidation state of the silver), then rinse and dry with a cloth.
Salt is also useful for washing machine maintenance. In addition to absorbing moisture, it also helps fight bad odors. To do this, pour a handful of coarse salt and a liter of white vinegar directly into the basket. Then run the empty washing machine at 90°.
As you can see, coarse salt has many virtues for cleaning and maintaining your home. Take out the salt shaker and start cleaning!
