Poinsettia  is  certainly one of the traditional plants, one of the best that can be found during the holiday season. It is a welcome gift with bright, bright colors and perfect style. Even those with a green thumb always wonder what is the ideal location in the house so that it can bloom and grow healthily all year round. You have to be careful, but with a few simple steps you can have a flawless poinsettia all year round.  Let’s find out together how to do it?

Poinsettia: history and tradition

The botanical name is Euphorbia pulcherrima, but we all know it as poinsettia. With its beautiful  bright red color  , which contrasts with the bright green color of the leaves. Almost no one knows that it comes from Mexico and if left in the wild it can reach a height of up to 3 meters.

Here in Italy, it is a symbol of  the Christmas tradition  , ideal to warm the house with its color or as a gift with meaning that restores friendship or as a talisman for good luck in the new year. Its name comes from tradition, actually since the end of the nineteenth century it has always been an official gift  for American ambassadors  and gradually this custom spread.

Its red leaves and elegant shape were then associated with Christmas and traditions not only here, but in all corners of the world. The stars are not flowers, but the leaves of the plant itself, which  turn intense red during the winter.

The actual  flower is called Ciazo  and it is a yellow gem that can be glimpsed without the petals and which forms among the red leaves during the cold winter. Unlike many other plants, the poinsettia is born and grows in mountainous areas, where there is no shortage of temperature changes and a mild climate.

This plant cannot withstand temperatures not exceeding 12°C, so it is very important that it has the right position inside the house, especially in  the cold season.

It is certainly a very strange plant and is associated with many Mexican and non-Mexican legends. The most famous one accompanies  the tradition of giving gifts  before the arrival of Christmas: in fact, it is said to be a way to open the hearts of the saddest and most closed people, to rediscover love and kindness for others.

Where to place the poinsettia in the house?

As expected, this  typical Christmas plant  should be placed inside the rooms of the house during the winter. It is important that it is not placed near heat sources, but in a bright environment with a temperature not falling below 15/20°C.

During the holidays,  you can place it in the living room  and try to make it the lightest corner of the whole room (perhaps in front of the window). Watch out for cold drafts and humidity, never miss a good daily watering so that its leaves are always bright and spotless.

The plant must never be placed in the passage space. Although it looks sturdy, its leaves are actually  fragile  and could break off from the base if people or four-legged friends walk past it, ruining its perfect foliage.

Christmas star

Immediately after the holidays, it is ideally located in a cool and airy room, in the spring it can be moved to the balcony or garden. Loves light areas, but not direct sun and drafts. From October, the beautiful plant with unprecedented flowering will  be moved inside the house.
