Why should we leave a cake in the freezer? Here is its secondary use that few people know about.

Sponge in the freezer

We all know the classic dish sponge, the yellow and green one with a soft side and an abrasive side. We often use it to wash and degrease dishes, to clean the bathroom or many other surfaces and objects. Its main use is generally for cleaning. However, there is another, totally unexpected way to use it. Let’s find out together.

The dish sponge

Yellow and green dish sponges  are very common and very versatile, and can be found in virtually every kitchen. These sponges, used primarily in the kitchen for washing dishes, are designed with a softer side, usually yellow, and a rougher side, green. Other colours and different shapes are also available on the market, but  the composition always includes a larger, softer part and a finer, rougher part  . Thanks to their structure, they are perfect for different types of cleaning, both in the kitchen and in other domestic and non-domestic environments.

The soft side is ideal for gentle soaping and cleaning, while the rough side is particularly effective at scraping off stubborn grime, such as from pots and pans. Indispensable for effective cleaning,  these sponges are a valuable tool for simplifying dishwashing activities and more  , especially when accompanied by soap or degreaser. However, as with many objects that populate our homes, these sponges also have an alternative use that involves placing them in the freezer.

Sponge in the freezer, an alternative solution

Why should we put the sponge for dishes in the freezer? Definitely not to get a better result when washing dishes. In fact,  for the use we will give it, it is advisable to use a new sponge  . First of all, even if it is new, it is advisable to wash it to soften it and, incidentally, to properly sanitize it. Once this is done, take an airtight food bag and place the sponge inside, which you can then place in the freezer.
In a short time, depending on the cooling time of your appliance,  you will have transformed a simple sponge for dishes into something truly useful  , that is, a homemade “instant ice”, useful both for bruises and for fever or also to maintain the temperature in the icebox.

Sponge instead of ice

This way  we will have a versatile and completely recyclable object  , since unlike the refreshing gels that can be bought on the market, the sponge can always be “defrosted” to be used for washing dishes or cleaning surfaces or tiles at home. In addition, its small size also makes it very practical to store in the freezer without reducing the space for food. And if we use the sponge with detergent when we wash the dishes, why not refrigerate it too?

Detergent in the freezer

Just like the sponge, dishwashing detergent is also very useful if it is frozen. You can easily pour it into a ziplock bag and then place it in the freezer to obtain an object very similar to the bags containing refreshing gel. In this case, we will also have a useful product for various needs and that has much less impact on the environment around us.
