Mold in the house? Just use some very fragrant plants to get rid of it, here’s what they are and how to best use them.

Plants against mold.

Mold is definitely the biggest concern for anyone living in a damp house. It can occur for different reasons but they all have one thing in common: humidity and poor ventilation.

The problem of mold

Many people have had to deal with mold problems in their home at least once in their lives. Whether it’s on walls or in closets,  it’s a serious problem that can lead to respiratory problems  .

To prevent the formation of mold in the home, it is essential  to maintain good ventilation  , promptly resolve water leaks and infiltrations, and ensure that the most humid areas, such as the bathroom and kitchen, are well ventilated.

Commercially available dehumidifiers, whether salt-based or electric, can help reduce humidity and prevent mold growth. But few people know that there is a   completely natural and aesthetically pleasing method to eliminate mold growth in the home.

Eliminate mold with aromatic plants.

It seems impossible, but even  in the case of mold, nature can be an excellent ally at home  . In fact, it will be enough to have  some specific plants  at home to eliminate it completely. The first of these is the fern, known for being a plant that appreciates humidity. Precisely this characteristic will allow it to be kept in humid environments without the need to wet the leaves. The plant, in fact, will  autonomously capture the humidity present in the air for its sustenance  , it will be enough to water it less frequently. If the mold problem is in a corner of the ceiling, a fern placed on a high surface, with its leaves hanging down, will offer a truly scenic effect.

Another useful plant for this purpose is a succulent plant known as Sansevieria. This plant has large, pointed and veined leaves,  it absorbs moisture optimally and does not require direct exposure to the sun  . Perfect for lower corners.

The quintessential indoor plant, the Orchid is also useful for counteracting the humidity present in the house.  A plant of tropical origin, therefore a lover of humidity  , it will capture as much of it as possible to feed itself and grow luxuriantly. The only requirement for this plant is good light, so pay attention to where you are going to place it.

The last plant on the list, but no less widespread, is Pothos. It is often allowed to “fall” from pots as a descending plant, but it is actually a climber.  Hardy and water-loving, it will find excellent nourishment in humidity thanks to its characteristic heart-shaped leaves. Pothos can be grown both in the ground and in jars filled with water, but in case of mould, the latter method is definitely not recommended.

How to get rid of mold on plants?

Now that we know which plants are ideal for fighting mold, we need to understand how and where to place them.  Plants that tend downwards  will surely find an excellent location at the highest points, on shelves or cupboards. On the other hand, plants that grow upwards can be placed directly on the ground or on small elevations. It is often believed that  placing different varieties of plants in the same environment is the definitive solution to the problem  . In reality, although these highly aromatic plants are able to reduce the probability of mold formation, they do not exclude 100% its appearance even if they are planted in groups.

Organize the plants

If the humidity level exceeds 70%, the situation is serious enough for the plants to resolve. In these situations,  it is necessary to consult with experts in the sector  , who will be able to address the issue definitively.

This does not, of course, exclude the possibility of growing several plants in the same room for purely aesthetic reasons, as well as as an aid against mold.
