The summer period for them is one of the peak ones and they are ready to look for food and prepare supplies for the winter.
We must therefore do everything by getting used to their presence. Of course, we cannot share a house with them and we need to find remedies to get rid of them easily. Insecticides, especially if used at home, must be used carefully. They contain chemicals that could be harmful to any small children or four-legged animals.

We’ll tell you right away which plant you need to keep insects away. It is the laurel plant. You will most likely already have it in the garden or in pots on the balcony. In fact, it is a plant that is often used in the kitchen for its many beneficial properties. But it is also an excellent repellent.
There are several ways to use it as a repellent and now we are going to see one in particular. Let’s create a flavored water to ward off insects, mosquitoes and midges. You will need to get some water and bay leaves. Take a saucepan and boil 500 ml of water with 3 bay leaves.
Let it boil for about 10 minutes and then wait for the solution to cool. In this way you have created a real laurel infusion that can be used as a repellent. Just put it in a bowl or several bowls and place it in the places where you think more insects and gnats will enter the house.
Surely you can put it near the windows or balconies. But also near the front door. Or you canalso put this infusion in a spray bottle. In this case, you can spray it near some outdoor areas of the house. But this is not the only way.
Natural laurel repellents
There are also other methods that can be done besides flavored water. Here are others:
- Bag: for this method you have to put bay leaves in a gauze bag and hang it near the window. The more leaves you put on, the stronger the smell will be and will drive away insects. For them, the aroma of laurel is very strong and they do not like it.
- Plant on the balcony – this is the easiest method. In fact, by placing a laurel plant on the balcony you will ward off insects and you can also use it in the kitchen. It does not require as much attention and therefore is a valid alternative.
