There is actually a very important factor that is ignored and it is nothing more than a simple principle of physics.
How to dissipate heat in the house without air conditioning
On the hottest days the sun can be really hot. This is why in summer it is advisable to use light-colored clothing, avoiding black or darker colors, for the principle that concerns the refraction of the sun’s rays and therefore of heat. The refraction of heat on light surfaces is a rather simple but not sufficiently well-known physical phenomenon.
Light surfaces may have a different effect on heat than dark surfaces. In fact, light surfaces reflect sunlight more than dark surfaces, which absorb it. This means that light surfaces tend to heat up less than dark surfaces in direct sunlight.
This phenomenon is known as albedo and depends on the ability of surfaces to reflect sunlight. Surfaces with a high albedo, such as light surfaces, reflect most of the sunlight and therefore absorb less heat than surfaces with a low albedo, such as dark surfaces, which instead absorb most of the sunlight and therefore heat up more.
It goes without saying, therefore, that having a light-colored wall outside the house will help to have cooler rooms. But the real protagonist of the refraction is the roof. Generally, on houses or villas there are paved terraced roofs or tiles. The latter are almost always brick-colored and never light. First of all, it will be necessary to insulate the roof. Get some silicone and proceed by sealing any open spaces and, if there are any, to cover the screws. Your roof should become a single block with no possibility of heat infiltration. Once settled, you can proceed with painting.
For this step, it is essential to choose a special paint that is resistant to high temperatures. Thinking of painting a roof entirely by hand is a decidedly difficult task, which is why the advice is to have a gun with which you can spray paint, a fast method that allows an even application of the paint.
Then proceed by passing the first coat and, if necessary, make a second coat once the paint is completely dry.
With this simple method, the heat will not be absorbed by the roof but reflected, which results in less heat being absorbed and a cooler environment underneath the roof.
