Many of us will not even know of the existence of this custom, but many others do it out of habit. We are talking about placing pins under the doormat of the house, that carpet that is placed in front of the front door. This practice may seem bizarre, strange and meaningless, but behind this gesture there is a very specific reason.
We inform you, however, that this reason has nothing to do with the traditional use of the pin that we normally use to patch broken or ruined clothes or to sew. Despite the strangeness of the thing, it is a practice used not only in Italy, but also in other parts of the world. They are normally used to join two flaps of fabric that will then be joined by a thread. But that’s not all. Unfortunately, modern society has moved far away from these customs and sometimes it is a real shame. In fact, believing that something can help the house and its inhabitants from something bad does not hurt anyone and above all has no cost.
