How to Remove Urine Stains from Mattress, the Foolproof Method
While sheets are easily washable and come back as good as new after a cycle in the washing machine, for the mattress it is a little more complicated.
Without a doubt it is essential to act immediately, drying quickly and as much as possible with absorbent paper.
Next, you need to proceed with a more thorough and in-depth cleaning. One of the most effective products is undoubtedly ammonia . It is possible (and even preferable) to use the scented one. The procedure is not difficult, just pour a little ammonia on a previously dampened cloth and then rub the part of the mattress affected by urine. A valid alternative could be to use ammonia in a container with a spray , so as to have a spray compound to use in a targeted way. It will then be necessary to rub with a cloth dampened with water.
Once you have worked on the stain, it is time to dry the mattress . You can remove the excess moisture with a dry cloth or absorbent paper and then let the mattress dry in the air. It is preferable, if possible, to let it dry in the sun or in any case as much as possible in the open air. If this is not possible, it is necessary to proceed to dry the mattress directly with the hairdryer.
Three alternative solutions to ammonia
To avoid strong odors like ammonia, however scented, you can use a product that we all surely have at home. The product in question is bicarbonate . You can use it by dissolving it in a solution with hot water, directly on the stain with a sponge , and then rub. Bicarbonate acts both as a whitener and as a disinfectant.
Among the ingredients we have at home, lemon and vinegar can also help us against urine stains . Mixing the ingredients in a little cold water will give you a solution to rub with a cloth or a soft sponge.
Last but not least, hydrogen peroxide . This is also an excellent ally that, thanks to its properties, will allow you to remove stains simply by soaking a cotton ball and pressing for a few minutes on the affected area.
All three solutions listed, of course, must be followed by drying in the sun and in the air , or by means of a hair dryer.
