It’s time for spring cleaning! Windows, kitchen, bathroom… We move everything, we polish from top to bottom, we shine… But do you remember to clean these dirty places?

If spring rhymes with sunshine, walks in nature and barbecues with friends, it also means a  great house cleaning   ! Now is the perfect time to embark on a complete house cleaning. We clean our bathroom from floor to ceiling, polish our appliances, dust the house from top to bottom, polish the windows, sort the laundry and prepare our terrace, balcony or garden for sunny days. If certain areas of the house are regularly maintained, others are neglected and  dust and bacteria accumulate there … A negative point for all those allergic to mites and dust. So, to help you, here is a list of essential equipment for a clean home, but also the 10 places and corners not to forget during spring cleaning!

What equipment is needed for a successful spring cleaning?

Good news: You don’t need a lot of supplies to have a sparkling home.

  • a vacuum cleaner
  • a broom
  • a mop
  • Microfiber cloths
  • white vinegar
  • hot water
  • Gloves

What places should you remember for an effective spring cleaning?

  • Skirting boards  : Dust really gets trapped everywhere and tends to accumulate on skirting boards. Remember to use the small brush when vacuuming to suck up dust from skirting boards. Another option: wipe it with a microfibre cloth.
  • Light switches and door handles  : We touch these places every day, and not necessarily with clean hands. It is therefore essential to clean and disinfect them periodically. We advise you to dust the tops of the switches with a brush and a microfibre cloth and then scrub them with a toothbrush or a cloth moistened with a mixture of hot water and white vinegar. Do the same on all the door handles.
  • Light fixtures:  The tops of lamps and lampshades are real nests of dust. The result: accumulation of dust, but also less luminosity. Turn off the electricity and take a damp microfibre cloth and wipe all your lampshades, not forgetting the light bulbs. Do this once or twice a year.
  • Shutters:  If we think about cleaning the windows as soon as the sun comes out, we forget to polish the shutters. If you do it regularly, the task will be much easier and faster. Prepare hot water and Marseille soap in a container and rub the shutters with a sponge and this preparation, then rinse.
  • Curtains  : There are several ways to clean curtains. If they are machine-washed, that is the easiest. Otherwise, you can vacuum them with your vacuum cleaner or use a steam cleaner, which is even more effective.
  • Remote controls, telephones and computer keyboards  are breeding grounds for bacteria. So to avoid the transmission of germs between family members, remember to disinfect them every week with a cloth and white vinegar.

The inside of trash cans : If we remember to clean the outside of the trash can, we are less likely to disinfect the inside of it. And yet, very often crumbs or drops remain. Once a month, clean the trash can thoroughly in the shower or bathtub; it is easier to rinse it. Scrub with white vinegar and rinse with warm water. To combat bad odors, place a cup of baking soda in the bottom of the trash can and change it every two weeks.

  • Reusable shopping bags   : we carry them everywhere, we put them on the floor, in the boot of the car… In short, they are everywhere and they are also a breeding ground for bacteria. The easiest way is to put them in the washing machine, but they risk shrinking. You can also wash them by hand with a little Marseille soap and hot water.
  • Radiators:  Dust likes to accumulate behind radiators. To remove it, hang a microfibre cloth on a metal hanger and slide it up and down behind the radiator.
  • Top of frames: Remember to dust the top of the frames when you dust.
