The lint that forms on sweaters is annoying and unfortunately represents the problem par excellence that any of us finds ourselves in front of every winter.

Lint on sweaters

In winter, for obvious reasons, we find ourselves dressing in warm clothing that allows us to stay warm and shelter from the cold outside, especially in the northern regions where the temperature often reaches zero degrees or even something less.

If on the one hand they are comfortable, on the other hand sweaters are problematic because they tend to develop very annoying lint, which hardly goes away with a single wash.

Sweaters that have lint are not always to be thrown away, here’s what is best to do

The lint that forms on sweaters, both old and new, both of good and bad quality are simply textile fibers and fabric that at first are very little noticeable, then they are unsightly.

Especially if they are new or well-made, you risk walking around and looking uncared for, giving a bad impression of yourself for no real reason. When the first lint begins to form, there are those who think that the sweater is no longer usable so they throw it away or keep it only for informal occasions or at home.

And then there are those who try everything to eliminate them and make sure that the sweater is as good as new. Method after method, finding the one that can give satisfaction is very difficult, but not impossible.

The cost-effective method that eliminates lint in seconds

Instead of spending who knows how much money, you can try to leverage home remedies that can solve the problem in a few moments, without spending a single penny. What you need is a piece of sandpaper, with a sponge to wash the dishes.

The first thing to do is to take the sweater and lay it out well on a flat surface, so it is free of wrinkles so as not to ruin it. Then rub it with sandpaper slowly and gently, avoiding putting too much pressure and therefore ruining the sweater permanently.

The movements of the sandpaper must go from top to bottom. Then take a sponge and rub it in the affected areas, on the abrasive side. In this way, the lint will all go away and the problem will be solved for at least one or two washes.

If you don’t have sandpaper, you can also use a simple toothbrush, avoiding rubbing hard. The toothbrush eliminates the dots that form on the fabric.

Finally, simple tights or a damp towel that must be rubbed directly on the sweater, taking the lint away with it, are also suitable. Obviously the quickest solution is the brush that removes lint, which unfortunately sometimes does not give great satisfaction.

What causes wool sweaters to felt?

Obviously then you have to be careful with washing because a wrong wash can only make the situation worse. For this reason, it is better to wash by hand rather than in the washing machine, especially if there are few sweaters to clean.

If, on the other hand, you persist in washing the washing machine, it is recommended to start the indicated program, i.e. the one for delicate garments, in cold water between 30 and 40 degrees.

A cause of felting, indeed the major cause is the water temperature that is too high. To which is added the use of inadequate products. For this reason, it is advisable to buy Marseille soap which is non-polluting like all other detergents.

Marseille soap washes any garment well, it makes the sweaters soft and remain fragrant for a long time.
