Blitz in Piazza Mercanti: some young people proceeded to deface a monument today, July 11. Here are the implications of an incident that involved these young people.

These are two young people who were taken to the command post following the incident. Thanks to a routine check, it was possible to trace their identities in order to understand who committed this act.
Blitz in Piazza Mercanti: first details
As mentioned earlier, we are talking about the story involving two young boys who allegedly defaced a monument. Specifically, it is the Monument to the Resistance in Piazza Mercanti. The two boys allegedly also targeted part of the pavement of the Loggia.
Luckily, thanks to some checks following the incident, they were stopped. We recall that it all happened this morning, in the early hours of the morning and precisely at 8.
Blitz in Piazza Mercanti: the arrival at the command
Thanks to the cast iron, therefore, the authors of this gesture reached the command. The local police of the city of Milan took steps to track down these young people and not only.

He also took steps to activate everything necessary to clean the affected area. Luckily, everything was possible thanks to the cameras in the area.
It was thanks to these that the agents were able to track them down.
Following this, they were taken to the headquarters in Piazza Beccaria to carry out all the necessary operations.
Another case of defacement
Just a few months ago, another similar episode occurred, in terms of defacement. In fact, a monument to Vittorio Emanuele II was defaced , in Milan and precisely in Piazza del Duomo.

We are talking about an action that was carried out by some young activists who are part of the group Ultima Generazione .
We are talking specifically about Martina and Riccardo, who initially proceeded to throw paint on the monument. They then proceeded to distribute several flyers to those who passed by and then throw them.
The arrival of the carabinieri
The Carabinieri arrived immediately at the scene of the incident. At first the two boys tried to resist and then they were taken away and accompanied to the barracks.
Only later did it emerge that the same people had been reported for defacing property.
The girl had also been reported for “failure to comply with the mandatory expulsion order” by the Municipality of Milan. Furthermore, the fire extinguishers used to carry out that act were seized, as well as the flyers.
What is the basis of this gesture?
We are certainly in the presence of a form of protest for climate change. One of the activists said these exact words:
“ The government invested 41.8 billion in fossil fuel extraction in 2021 alone. We ask that this mountain of money be immediately removed from fossil fuels and invested in a fair ecological transition, in measures that benefit citizens’ health and the future of young generations.”
The other added:
“ Let’s not pay for fossil fuels! Is defacing a statue scandalous? I say that the real scandal is the government’s absolute indifference to our lives, which the climate crisis will destroy and is already destroying. Italy is the sixth largest investor in fossil fuels in the world, it invests even more than Russia and Saudi Arabia. We must immediately get rid of oil, coal and gas: it is possible to do so, all that is missing is the political will because we live in a system in which the profit of a few counts more than the lives of millions of people.”
In short, there are certainly these motivations at the base of all this. A smearing perhaps different from the one presented at the beginning of the article, in terms of reasons and objectives.
