The mustache in his radiators is really annoying. With this method it is possible to say goodbye to them in a few minutes.

Black mustache on the radiator

If we have radiators in the house, after some time and especially in winter, annoying black mustaches are created that seem impossible to counteract or eliminate. Few people know it, but it is a process due to the overheating of the radiator and a series of processes that we will analyze shortly. Few people know that there is a very quick method to say goodbye to them and have a wall and a clean radiator again: experts teach us how to do it and it takes very little time.

Radiators that dirty the wall: the causes

The radiator is one of the fundamental tools for having the right heat during the cold period. These elements are fed with cold water and create a technological process to spread the heat throughout the house.

The real problem is that during the summer when turned off and during the winter when turned on, these instruments accumulate a lot of dust that settles. As a result, these particles are diffused by heat and form the blackening that can be seen on the wall and also on the radiators themselves.

Cast iron radiator

This is the first reason, but there is also another cause that is important to pay attention to. In fact, there could be overheating by burning the particles of the radiator and also of the wall paint.

How to prevent black mustaches from being created on radiators and walls?

It happens every year and you find yourself with the classic black mustache along the radiator and above on the wall. Is it possible to counter and avoid this event? Experts suggest to:

  1. Wash the element with a fine brush to remove the bulk of the dust. Immediately afterwards, just wipe with a cloth soaked in water enriched with baking soda. Obviously, this is an operation that will have to be done with the radiator off during the summer and then cleaned up before turning it on;
  2. Cover the radiators during the summer so as to prevent all the dust from accumulating during the period of non-use.

As mentioned, the problem could also be caused by overheating radiators with a higher energy expenditure than normal. It is important to reset their temperature as follows:

  • The cast iron radiator must have a temperature of 60°C
  • The steel or aluminium radiator must not exceed a temperature of 50°C

After 4 days you can then slowly increase and check over time if the mustache still forms. That’s not all, experts also recommend installing probes that keep the temperature under control to avoid overheating.

This is a great tip to counteract the formation of this black mustache. Obviously, to remove those present, always use a detergent with baking soda and repaint the wall where necessary.

If despite everything the radiator continues to emit black fumes, not due to dust or overheating, then it is time to contact a specialized technician.
