Having problems with insects in your home during the summer? Here’s how to solve them quickly with a homemade product.

The warm season is almost here and it is inevitable that with it come the insects . Whether they are mosquitoes or midges, we often find them in our homes and they can be really annoying to get rid of. Let’s see how to create a repellent that keeps them away from our homes using only natural ingredients.
The natural insect repellent
During the summer, it is quite common to have insects in your home , especially if there are windows or doors that remain open for a long time. Insects are mainly attracted by light and food, which is why it would be a good idea to have mosquito nets if you intend to leave the windows open and the lights on. It is also essential to keep the house clean , eliminating food residues and frequently throwing out the garbage, so as not to attract unwanted guests.

Last but not least, if you have plants, keep an eye on the saucers or pots , if they are aquatic plants, as they are perfect places for mosquitoes to nest.
Most people rely on chemical repellent sprays, which can often be harmful to humans but also to the environment. In fact, most of these sprays recommend airing the rooms after use. In this article, we will see how to make a completely natural , economical and even scented insect repellent .
How to make a homemade repellent
The first thing to identify are the raw materials that disturb our little unwanted guests . One of the least tolerated ingredients is undoubtedly tobacco.
Tobacco can be used as a natural pesticide to keep insects away from plants and our homes. The nicotine in tobacco is a natural insecticide that can kill or repel insects. All you need to do is get some distilled water, tobacco, and an essential oil of your choice, as long as it is natural.
First, heat the water and pour it into a container. Then add the tobacco and a few drops of essential oil and mix for a long time to dissolve the ingredients. Then cover the mixture and let it rest for about 8 hours .

After this time, take a new container, a strainer and proceed to filter your mix. You will notice that the water will have absorbed the tobacco and will have become an amber color . Once everything is filtered, continue by transferring the solution into a spray bottle.
Now that you have your natural repellent, you can spray it first on plants , where insects nest and often lay their eggs. It can also be used directly on mosquito nets, since it is known that mosquitoes attracted by light usually stay near windows. Last but not least, you can use the decoction in the bathroom and kitchen drains , where midges often nest. In this case, leave it to act for a few minutes and rinse with water.
