A lot of people are rubbing a lemon on the doorknob and finding out what happens shortly after.

Spread lemon on the handle

Here we reveal why this practice has become so common and why so many people use it every day.

Door handle, how to clean it effectively

It is common to see that as time goes by, things deteriorate. Wood rots, metals oxidize, fabrics break. But as far as possible, we must try to make good use and maintenance of our things so that their useful life lasts longer.

That’s why today we show you a series of tricks so that you know how to prolong, in particular, the life of handles, knobs and latches that you may have on your doors.

Handle

To begin with, you should know that there are two types of cleaning depending on the material you want to clean. In first place are handles in Zamak, Aluminum, Brass or any other material except stainless steel. Normally these materials have a bath finish or paint that covers the initial material above to make the handle more attractive and stylish than your door.

These finishes are usually superficial and therefore sensitive to cleaning with any typical cleaning material. To clean these handles, knobs, and door handles, the best thing to do is to use only a damp cloth. Any cleaning material with chemicals could corrode that paint bath that the handles have.

Secondly, there are the stainless steel handles. These need the passage of a damp cloth on the handles to leave them shiny as they used to be. However, sometimes stainless steel can create black spots that require cleaning with a stronger tool. What we recommend is the use of a slightly damp sponge. You should only carefully rub the black areas of the handle and it will be as good as new.

Rub a lemon on the handle and the magic happens

So many people are rubbing a whole lemon on the doorknobs to bring them back to life. The acid of lemon, in fact, is able to remove encrustations and halos.

This is an excellent method, which will allow us, for example, to reuse lemon waste and use those that are now going bad and that we were about to throw away.

Lemon on house door handles

What you should do is pour a few drops of lemon inside a basin and dip a soft cloth there to pass over the handle. An alternative is to rub lemon directly on your door handles.

Let it sit on the surface for a few minutes, then rinse it off. Use warm water and a soft sponge. Repeat this procedure several times a month, because handles are a component of our home that we do nothing but use.

We are sure that, by applying our advice and with a little elbow grease and a lot of perseverance you will finally be able to make your handles look as good as they used to be in a short time.
