Most beautiful castle

Right in Lombardy there is one of the most beautiful castles in Italy. It dates back to the Middle Ages

Most beautiful castles? One is in Lombardy

Castles have a unique charm and in Italy we can boast some of the most beautiful in the entire peninsula if not in Europe. Among these, one is located in Lombardy, in the part of the region where one of the most famous wines in the world is produced: Franciacorta.

Called Bornato Castle-Bornato Ca’ Mia or simply Bornato Castle, it is an ancient building that stands in the municipality of the same name, in the province of Brescia . It is among the most beautiful castles because it represents an example of well-preserved medieval architecture, very fascinating and full of history.

Let’s start from the origins of the castle. It was built for defensive purposes in the 13th century . Over the centuries to come, then, from a fortress it became a real castle, changing connotation. The major renovations and enrichments occurred in the Renaissance period. This is visible thanks to the various architectural elements and decorations that are typical of that period.

The architecture of the castle is imposing, and mixes medieval and Renaissance elements. In particular, the facade has a tower and elegant loggias. Inside, you can admire period frescoes and rooms where you can read the history of the past but also the tastes of those who have taken turns in living in the castle.

The ancient cellars are located beneath the main tower of the castle. The wine of Castello di Bornato was produced there for over 700 years. Its production continued until the 2000s. In the cave that constitutes the cellar, the oak barrels and all the tools that were used to bottle the wine are still visible. Today, only the best vintages are bottled and sold in the castle.
