- ripe geranium
- small plastic pots
- seedbed substrate
- sand
- knife or scissors
- rooting hormone (optional)
1. First, we select the healthiest, strongest and thickest stems and cut them above the second armpit, counting from the top. That is, just above the place where the leaves come out.
2. Remove the leaves and shoots from the lower half of the cutting . Finally, we cut the lower end of the stem just below the node. Here there is a higher concentration of the plant’s natural root hormones.
3. To improve your success, dip the base of each cutting in a small amount of rooting hormone to stimulate root growth.
4. Fill the flowerpots with a mixture of planting substrate and sand . This will improve its drainage. Place 2-3 cuttings in each flower pot. We water it well and place the pots with the cuttings in a well-lit place inside the house. It is best not to cover the cuttings with plastic to prevent mold.
5. After a few weeks, the wound will heal and we will start to see the first roots . In 6-8 weeks, the cutting should already have a good, well-established root system.
6. Now we can transplant each cutting into one pot with normal substrate. We will keep them with good humidity and then in the coming weeks we will be able to plant the geraniums wherever we want.
