Did you know that there are simple methods to disinfect wooden ladles, which easily fill with bacteria? Here’s what to do when detergent and water aren’t enough to disinfect them.

Water and detergent are often not enough to clean and disinfect wooden ladles, utensils that are easily filled with bacteria and therefore need to be thoroughly disinfected before being used again. What to do in these cases? There are simple methods to put into practice with ingredients that you already have at home, so they are easy to find and also very economical. Let’s find out what to do to disinfect wood ladles!
How to clean wooden spoons
Wooden ladles are among the most commonly used utensils in the kitchen and must be treated correctly to disinfect them perfectly and reuse them daily without danger to health. Unfortunately, given the material, we cannot put them in the dishwasher, as the appliance reaches very high temperatures and the material can be easily damaged.
In addition, heat and humidity promote the growth of bacteria in the material, so make sure to wash them thoroughly before using them again. It’s also a good idea to avoid chemical dishwashing detergents, as they are often harsh and can damage the wood of the utensils.
These types of utensils tend to be absorbed, so dirt, grease and food debris are concentrated in them, so hot water and dish detergent are often not enough to kill bacteria and disinfect them. Don’t worry, here’s a solution to have perfectly disinfected wooden ladles!

Disinfectant mix for wood buckets
To have wooden ladles that are perfectly free of dirt and properly disinfected, it is possible to opt for a specially prepared mixture. With this mixture, you will be able to thoroughly clean these utensils and free them from bacteria, avoiding health risks.
The first thing to do is to choose a large container to prepare the mixture and in which you can then dip the wooden ladles. Once you find the container, here’s how to prepare the mixture and what to do to clean the ladles:
- Pour 1 1/2 quarts of water into a saucepan;
- Add 1 1/2 cups vinegar to water;
- Put the pan on the heat and boil for about 10 minutes;
- Remove the pan from the heat and pour the solution into the bowl;
- Dip the wooden ladles into the solution and soak until the liquid cools.
Once the solution has cooled, it’s time to remove them and rinse them under running water. After rinsing thoroughly with water, place the ladles outdoors to dry quickly.

The mixture also contains lemon juice.
You can also add a little lemon juice to the mixture, which will give off a pleasant aroma and soothe the strong smell of vinegar. The degreasing and sanitizing action of lemon makes it one of the most effective ingredients for cleaning these utensils, as it helps to easily remove strong odors and grease.
Then add the lemon juice to the prepared solution as directed above to make your ladles even cleaner and sanitized and also with a pleasant aroma. Instead of placing them outdoors, if you don’t know how to do it, you can dry the ladles with a soft, dry cloth, which can treat the wood gently so as not to damage it.
The mixture described above can be used whenever it is necessary to clean them, as they are natural ingredients, which do not cause any damage to the material or our health. The results we will obtain are undoubtedly excellent and we will no longer have utensils full of bacteria and dirt, but very clean and disinfected, to cook food without danger to health!
