If we notice that the leaves are pierced by rose plants, we absolutely have to intervene: here’s how to do it.

With the return of the warmer months, nature takes over and offers truly fascinating spectacles. The beauty, color, and brightness of flowers and plants invade gardens, windowsills, balconies, and even the interiors of the homes of those who choose to grow some green friends within their walls. Among the many flowers that green thumb lovers choose to enrich their vegetable garden or embellish the decoration of their home, there are undoubtedly roses that are chosen above all for their splendor and their many colors. But as with all plants, if we decide to take care of roses, we must do it very carefully, trying to guarantee the roses everything they need and protecting them from any type of risk.
Rose petals with holes: you have to act quickly to save the plant
For this reason, it is necessary to intervene immediately if we notice that something is wrong with the leaves of rose plants. In fact, it’s not uncommon for rose petals to have holes and the surface isn’t as smooth as it used to be. What’s going on?

There can be many causes that cause these holes to appear in rose leaves. The most important thing is to know them so you know how to intervene and make sure the roses are completely healthy again. First, we need to remember what has happened in recent days in terms of the weather. To be clearer, if a hailstorm has hit our area in recent days, it is likely that it was this event that caused the holes. In addition to hail, wind can also cause this damage to rose leaves. On a particularly windy day, the leaves of the roses will hit the branches of the plant and form holes. If, on the other hand, the cause is not due to hail or wind, it is very likely that our beloved roses have been infested by insects. This happens especially in summer, when insects and parasites appear in large numbers not only in gardens and balconies, but also in the house. The good news is that you can intervene in a targeted way to defeat pests and strengthen the rose plant, guaranteeing our green friend excellent health and a long life. If the parasites that attack the plant are the black Tentredini of the rose, where the larvae are recognizable by the underside of the leaves, the first thing we must do is periodically monitor the leaves themselves to see if these pests are present.

In this case, you can intervene with a damp cloth or perhaps a pyrethrum-based product, which should be able to remove black stains from the rose in no time.

In summer, however, roses are more likely to have to deal with argidae, which are also known as rose caterpillars. In the larval stage, argidae need plant leaves to feed. Precisely to prevent this aggressiveness from irreparably damaging the rose plant, it is advisable to carefully check the health of our green friend in this case as well. Chemicals can easily remove argidia but it is always recommended to choose a pyrethrum-based treatment. Alternatively, you can solve the problem with some homemade natural products. A remedy for argidos is to mix 15 properly chopped black peppercorns in half a liter of natural water. We let the solution sit for about an hour and then spray it on the leaves to remove the argidia and make sure the rose plant is completely healthy again.
