The problem with white towels begins when the immaculate white begins to wear with use or with washes that are not suitable for the fabric. When this happens, the pads often take on a yellowish or grayish color and are not as soft as they used to be, and their wear is more noticeable.
How to whiten towels: one ingredient is enough
You may have wondered: how do hotels wash towels on a daily basis and keep them white, in good condition and smelling fresh? Now, if the idea of throwing them in the trash has crossed your mind, think again, there are many economic solutions that are worth it simply by using what we have at home. Let’s look at some of them below.

Our grandmothers used it, baking soda is never missing in the kitchen, it is a natural home remedy that has many properties. This substance can help whiten and remove stains, as well as soften our aged towels.
Its use requires pouring two or three tablespoons of baking soda, both in the appropriate tray and inside the washing machine drum, in order to schedule the most suitable wash for your clothes.

If you prefer to wash by hand, simply dip the same amount of product into a basin, let the powder dissolve well, and then dip the items to be treated, leaving them to soak for a while. Finally, rinse everything off.
We have already talked about white vinegar in relation to its degreasing properties and its ability to eliminate bad odors. White vinegar is also ideal when you want to take advantage of its whitening capabilities.
In addition, its emollient capacity is able to soften particularly rough towels that tend to scratch the skin.
To use this treatment, simply pour half a glass of white vinegar into a bowl filled with hot water and then let the towels soak for a few hours. Finally, they should be rinsed and can be washed as we usually do.

This natural treatment can also be used in washing machines, pouring it into the washing tank and then starting the program as we usually do.
Other Natural Remedies for White Towels
Among the natural products that we have at home for blanching, lemon also has its place, this fragrant citrus fruit had a place of honor in our grandmothers’ laundry that had to be blanched.

When washing towels in the washing machine, mix 500 ml of water with half a cup of lemon juice, then pour it into the clothes drawer and schedule the indicated wash.
If you prefer to do a manual wash, you will have to put two slices of lemon in a liter of boiling water and then let the towels to be bleached soak for about thirty minutes.
Once the time has passed, continue washing as usual. In the end, the towels will be white. Lemon juice should be used exclusively on clear or white towels due to its whitening properties.
Citric acid for old, yellowish towels
If you want to avoid vinegar, you can use citric acid, also appreciated for its ability to clean the washing machine and remove limescale from the inside.

For this reason, it is enough to dissolve 150 g of citric acid in 1 l of warm water and pour about 100 ml of this solution into the laundry drawer for each machine wash.
