Orchids are some of the most fascinating and magical plants to grow at home. Not only because of their beauty, but also because they can grow in many different ways, some of which are very original! Among these is the steam method: this technique allows the roots of the plant to grow very quickly and, above all, healthy and strong. Let’s see what it is.
Growing orchids with the steam method
With this method, the flowers bloom much more beautifully and in “shape”. First, you need to use garlic powder. That’s right, this product contains so many vitamins and nutrients that are absolutely great for plant growth. Use a teaspoon of this substance, then pour boiling water into it. Now pour the mixture into a vaporizer, making sure to filter it properly first (use cheesecloth or cloth). Then you need to add half a liter of water. Start by spraying it on the leaves of an orchid plant and on the roots to ensure that it can grow very healthy and strong and fight off infestation by insects and various parasites. Garlic also helps the plant settle more easily in the new “house” we are going to build. At this point, we will use an empty plastic bottle and start cutting the cap part down to about ten centimeters. At this point, when we work on this cut part (which is funnel-shaped), we’ll drill different holes just above the opening where the plug would fit.
Conclusion of the proceedings
At this point, all we have to do is put our perforated “funnel” in the other half of the bottle and, above all, we have to put the plant inside (make sure to remove the dry roots first). Now we’re going to use some pieces of polystyrene to fill in the gaps. Fill the other half bottle with water and stand in the funnel with the plant. The water should only partially touch the roots: place everything on a light surface and water thoroughly. Once the roots have grown well and you’ve taken advantage of the holes you made earlier to “get out,” you can transplant them into a larger container that will allow you to let the plant grow freely. You will notice that the orchids will be healthy, fresh, lush and with very colorful flowers.
