However, washing a carpet can often be problematic and it is necessary to resort to a detergent. But maybe not everyone knows that there is a method to dry clean carpets and avoid washing them. Whether they are lovely and antique or modern and modern, all carpets should be treated properly and kept clean. It is certainly necessary to take care of this piece of furniture on a daily basis, as due to its composition and, not least, its intended use, it tends to accumulate dust and get dirty very easily.
Today, carpets exist for every room in the house, whether in the bathroom, kitchen, living room, or bedroom, the type of which obviously differs according to use.
A bathroom or kitchen rug, for example, will have a non-slip base and will likely have shorter pile.
But how do you keep a carpet clean and take care of it? Sure, what we can do is clean it regularly with a vacuum cleaner to prevent the accumulation of mites and dust, but the carpet also needs regular cleaning. And if taking it to the laundromat every time is not only a hassle but also expensive, let’s see how to fix it yourself at home.
How to clean carpets at home
In these times when saving is essential for a large part of Italian families, even carrying a rug to wash in the washing machine can be an expense that many would prefer to avoid. But without a doubt, the rug is a piece of furniture that needs cleaning. So how do you do it?
You can use the type of washing called “dry”, which involves using leave-in products. In our case, it will be enough to use baking soda.
This ingredient is especially suitable for cleaning because it is an excellent disinfectant that absorbs odors, moisture and grease stains and allows a deep cleaning of fabrics.
The method of use is really very simple, just spread the baking soda on the surface of the mat with a strainer or a strainer with a fairly narrow mesh, to sprinkle the product avoiding lumps. Once the entire carpet is covered, leave it on for at least two hours, after which you can vacuum up all of the baking soda. In addition to removing stains and disinfecting, baking soda will also retain hair, hair, and dirt, as well as dust.
Once disinfected, the odors can be eliminated.
To do this, you will need 500 ml of unscented distilled water, 100 ml of white vinegar and a few drops of essential oil. Pay attention to the type of essential oils you choose, make sure that they are of natural origin and that their smell is adapted to the environment.
Simply mix all the ingredients in a container with the spray and spray the mixture from a distance of about 40 cm from the mat without getting it too wet. If possible, let it air dry or at least with the windows open and after a few hours you will have your carpet clean, sanitized and scented.
