They are practically impossible to find in supermarkets because they last little or nothing, you have to eat them the same day they are harvested.
Where to plant strawberries: light and climate
Strawberries are a good source of antioxidants, including anthocyanins, which give them their characteristic red color. Antioxidants help protect cells from free radical damage and may have health benefits, such as reducing the risk of cardiovascular disease and some cancers. All reasons to always have them fresh and free. Strawberries love the sun, so choose a sunny spot, with about seven hours of direct sunlight. But, although it is a great lover of the sun, it tolerates shade quite well, although its production will be much lower. This fruit is resistant to a wide range of temperatures. Their optimal temperature, where they develop new stems, flowers and fruits, is 10-13ºC at night and 18-22ºC during the day. To grow them at home you don’t need much, just reserve some plastic bottles, the bigger the better. Then cut them in half with a box cutter and then poke holes around the packets with a hot punch or screwdriver. Both the part with the lid and those with the bottom can be used. Now we can tie a string to the sides, so we can hang them in the sun. To grow strawberry plants, they are placed in a plastic bag or cling film. Then you put some soil and a slice of banana with all the peel, and then the strawberry plants. The plastic closes to keep everything tidy.
After 15 days, once the seedlings have been released from the bags, you will see that many small roots have begun to grow. Each plant is placed in the soil that has been poured into the pots hanging in the sun, exactly in the center. We water them periodically and after two months you will see how the strawberry plants gain strength and revitalize. In just three and a half months we will have many plants with strawberries ready to be harvested, good organic and at no cost.
