To get rid of them, however, you don’t need to use chemical repellents, but you can create a natural solution. In fact, by using simple bay leaves and cloves, you can keep insects and parasites away from your home and garden forever.

Laurel and carnation: repels insects

Repels insects with bay leaves and cloves, known for their repellent properties. These plants have been used for centuries to keep mosquitoes, flies, and other pesky insects away. Bay leaves, in fact, are native to the Mediterranean region and contain essential oils that give off an odor that insects find unpleasant. Burning or crushing bay leaves, therefore, allows these essential oils to be released into the air, creating a natural barrier against insects. Bay leaves are effective both fresh and dried. When dried, the leaves of this plant keep for up to a year, but fresh ones can release a more potent aroma that may work better to keep roaches away. Cloves, on the other hand, are the dried buds of the flower of the Syzygium aromaticum plant, native to Indonesia. Cloves are useful for repelling insects and pests because they contain a compound called eugenol, which acts as a natural insect repellent. When ground or placed in a room, the nails release eugenol into the air, creating a protective barrier against insects, flies, and cockroaches.

Keep insects away

Both plants, therefore, are useful for scaring away insects naturally, without the use of chemicals harmful to human health or the environment. Plus, these ingredients are cheap and easy to find, making them a convenient option for anyone who wants to keep bugs away naturally and without spending a lot of money.

Combine bay leaves and cloves to eliminate insects.

To prepare our natural remedy against flies, mosquitoes, aphids and cockroaches , 15 bay leaves and 10 cloves will be enough. We take a saucepan and fill it with a liter of water, which we bring to a boil. Once the water boils, pour the bay leaves and cloves into it. Let everything boil for a few minutes so that the ingredients release the useful substances that characterize them, then remove the pan from the heat and let it cool. After a few minutes, we can proceed to pour the liquid obtained into a bottle with a spray diffuser.

Keep insects away

Now we only have to use the remedy against insects in the areas where insects form the most, for example in the pantrykitchen and bathroom. Then we can use the liquid that is obtained by cooking bay leaves and cloves in the gardenonce a month, to keep parasites away from the plants.

Additional Tips

Both of these proven ingredients can be used in combination with other plant repellents to increase their effectiveness. For example, mint and eucalyptus leaves are two other well-known insect repellents and can be used in conjunction with bay leaves and cloves to create an even more powerful protective barrier.
