Garlic peels are worth their weight in gold, don’t ever throw them away again! I’ll show you how my grandmother used them! It is not uncommon that when we cook we tend to throw away a lot of food scraps that can really be useful to us. Among them are peels and, in particular, garlic peels, which are among the most useful products that can be wrongly defined as waste. These, as we will see in detail, can become exceptional allies for the plants in our garden. Garlic is not only useful in the kitchen, to make many unique and special dishes, but also exceptionally useful as a natural medicine, for our body and for plants. Below we have decided to reveal some really useful information to you.
Garlic peels: here’s how to reuse them
Garlic peels can be used to help our plants grow healthy and strong. In fact, they act as a natural fertilizer: they can provide plants and soil with the right food. In this way we will avoid unnecessary waste and above all we will guarantee an economical and eco-sustainable fertilizer. Among the main nutrients we find: potassium, phosphorus and nitrogen. These are essential elements for plants, which are contained in all fertilizers that can be purchased on the market. But how to use peels in detail? Many different types of ways can be created to administer garlic peels. First of all we can make an infusion : it will be enough to boil a few garlic peels in about a liter of water. At this point, once everything has boiled for a few minutes, let the mixture rest for at least one night and filter everything. Then we can pour everything into a container with a sprayer: in this way we can easily spray it on the leaves and soil. The result will be spectacular. In addition to this, we can mix the husks with the soil; all this before direct seeding. In this way, all the nutrients will strengthen the soil and especially the plant, directly from the roots. Obviously the same applies to compost. If we have a domestic compound, we can introduce garlic peels to enrich the product. These organic substances help make the soil even more nutritious for the plant. Lastly, it would be helpful to note that garlic peels make great insect repellents. They can be used sprinkled directly on leaves and around plants, to keep away various harmful insects – think first of all aphids. Seeing is believing!
